    Description

Fallen Heroes 1.5 inch bronze medal
    US mint description:
This 2014 Fallen Heroes of VA 1.5 Inch Bronze Medal honors the Pentagon victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The obverse of the medal depicts the rebuilt façade of the Pentagon, where Flight 77 crashed. The view of the Pentagon on the medal is the angle of the flight path. A single candle and a small bouquet of flowers and greens signify a sacred memorial at the site. The American flag flies overhead in a united and patriotic embrace. The inscription is “ACT OF CONGRESS 2011.”
The reverse features 184 stars on a raised border around the edge of the design, one star for each of the victims of the tragedy at the Pentagon. The inscription reads:
“WE HONOR THOSE ON FLIGHT 77 AND THOSE IN THE PENTAGON WHO PERISHED ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2001. WE WILL NEVER FORGET THEIR SACRIFICE AS WE UNITE IN MEMORY.”
The design also features a bald eagle standing sentinel and clasping branches of laurel, signifying an eternal honoring of those who perished in the tragedies.

inch medal is a miniature bronze duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal honoring the men and women who perished at the Pentagon as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Following the ceremony on September 10, 2014, the gold medal was given to the Pentagon Memorial for permanent display. These medals measure 1.5 inches in diameter.
The tragic deaths at the World Trade Center, Pentagon and in rural Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001, forever changed our nation. Civilians, officers, emergency workers and members of the military, as well as federal, state and local government employees took heroic and noble action on that day.
In recognition of the support of the country for those who lost their lives to terrorism, Public Law 112-76 authorizes the production of three Congressional Gold Medals – one for each of the three sites – and corresponding bronze medals. The three medals bear unique designs emblematic of each site.
The obverse and reverse of the Pentagon medal were designed and executed by Ms. Hemphill.
