    Description
    Leucistic Pied Raven Mounted Specimen
This is a Raven with rare pigment abnormalities caused by recessive genes.  I had an ornithologist identify it from pictures.
Note that the beak is light brown in color rather than black.  This is also due to the alleles that cause the white in the feathers.
This mount is from an estate in Illinois.
The age is unknown.   The former owner did not collect it himself and he died over 10 years ago without leaving any information about it.
This bird is likely not one of the Pied Ravens from the Faroe Islands.  That population of pied ravens was hunted to extinction due to high prices paid by collectors. The last one was seen in the wild in 1950's.   Most of those pied ravens were gone by the early 1900's.   Only 16 Faroe Island Pied Raven specimens are known to exist.  However, the genetic alleles for pied coloration likely still exists in all raven populations.
The mount is currently in this vintage glass box.   The mount is held on to the bottom plate by just one screw.
Shipping will be difficult.  At this time I have listed it as pickup only.    Please contact me about shipping options.  Buyer will pay for shipping and any packing services.  I recommend getting a private carrier through Uship.com.    The national carriers cannot guarantee that the item will not be tumbled on a conveyor belt.
It might be possible to ship this with UPS pack and ship.  I would take it to a UPS store and have them pack it.  If the store packs it then they have a pack and ship guarantee that will cover the value of the item if it is damaged.  There will be a fee for packing it.
If I were to pack it, I would put it inside a close fitting box and then put it inside an outer box measuring about 19 x 24 x 19 and the shipping weight would be about 24 pounds.
Another option would be to ship it without the glass case.  That would make shipping it far easier.
Pickup location is Maplewood, MO 63143.  Or buyer to arrange shipping.
This species of bird is not prohibited for sale on the international market, as evidenced by Cites.
In addition, this type is not prohibited in the United States, as evidenced by the absence of the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service on the list of banned birds, the
Act also includes the Migratory Bird Treaties Act, which also provides legal grounds for listing.
Shipping boxes, padded envelopes, bubble wrap, and packing peanuts are mostly previously used.
International buyers:  I only ship with the Global Exchange program.  No USPS International First Class is offered. No exceptions.
    Returns:
Returns are allowed on some of my listings.   Claims for damages during shipping MUST ALWAYS be filed with the carrier for insurance coverage.  Items found not to be as described are handled on a case by case basis.   Buyer will pay original and return shipping.
