In 2005, Congress commissioned the U.S. Mint to create a series of coins honoring the United States Presidents, to be released in the order that they served. On November 18, 2010, the highly anticipated Abraham Lincoln Presidential Dollar was released to the public and sparked a frenzy among coin collectors all over the world. Although the Presidential Dollars were very popular among collectors, it was decided that, due to budgetary restraints, production of future
Presidential Dollars will be limited. Beginning with Chester A. Arthur in the spring of 2012, only collectors who are willing to pay a premium above face value for special collector’s proofs will be able to purchase the rest of the Presidents for their collection.
In celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s historic Presidency – and to commemorate the dollar coin bearing his likeness – the skilled artisans at American Mint have created their own interpretation of the Lincoln Presidential Dollar, minted it in solid 14k gold and limited to only 9,999 complete collections worldwide. Minted to the highest quality “Proof” standard, it comes in its own protective capsule to preserve it for generations to come.
