Stone 1: Natural diamond, old mine cushion cut, I-J color, SI1 clarity, (1) one stone in total, weighing approximately 1.00ct, measuring 6.94mm x 5.28mm (depth indeterminable due to closed back setting) *NOTE* Total depth from center of the table to closed back setting is 4.02mm. Carat weight estimate is based off dimensions of the stone, and presumed depth of AROUND 3.8mm.
Stone 2: Natural diamond, peruzzi cut, K-L-M color, VS2-SI1 clarity, (8) eight in total, weighing approximately 1.44ctw. These stones do not exhibit any similarity in measurement. They measure as small as 2.75mm x 2.75mm and as larger as 3.75mm x 2.75mm. All stones exhibit exceedingly large crown angles, very small tables, and very large culets.
Stone 3: Natural diamond, old mine cut, H-I-J color, SI clarity, (23) twenty three in total, weighing approximately .69ctw, measuring approximately 1.75mm x 1.75mm (average dimension) *NOTE* Some of these stones in the halo appear grey. This is believed to be from liquid getting into the backing of the ring and discoloring the metal. This is very common of early closed back settings.
Comments/Condition: When purchasing an original piece of Georgian jewelry, there are a few things to look for. Number one is that the piece should exhibit significant wear. If a jewelry item is 200 year old, or more, it should have wear consistent with that age. This ring has been reshanked (a new gold band adhered). It has a dented backing, and small breaks through the thin metal plate. One stone in the peruzzi halo is slightly more rounded than the rest, likely a replacement done in the Victorian era. Lastly, the semi-collet settings on the ring closest to the fingers are worn down. Simply put, this ring has significant wear consistent with its age. Secondly, Georgian era jewelry items are light; they weigh significantly less than their modern counterparts. The reason for this is that gold deposits had not been discovered in areas like California and Alaska, and as such, materials for production were harder to find and thus used far more sparingly. This ring has a very light weight compared to its overall appearance, and checks another box for an authentic Georgian ring. Third, diamond cutting was nowhere near as developed as it is today. Girdles were cut extremely thin, with many nicks/chips/naturals typically present. Facet arrangements were not uniform, nor were stone shape/size. This ring exhibits all of these attributes. The center stone has numerous minor girdle imperfections, the stones exhibit very little uniformity, and the cutting style and shape varies from stone to stone. This is yet another excellent sign that the ring is indeed Georgian. All of these wonderful condition imperfections lend to this being a 100% authentic Georgian jewelry item. It is of note that the center stone dimensions are large for a Georgian era ring, as diamonds had not yet been discovered in Africa. This is truly a very special ring.
